CQT Range Rules & Safety Policies

At Close Quarters Tactical, safety is the foundation of everything we do. These Range Rules & Safety Policies are in place to protect our guests, staff, and facility while providing a professional and respectful training environment.

All shooters, spectators, and visitors must read, understand, and follow these rules at all times while inside the range area.

Fundamental Firearm Safety Rules

The following rules apply at all times, without exception:

  • Treat all firearms as if they are loaded

  • Always keep your firearm pointed downrange

  • Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire

  • Be aware of your target and what is beyond it

Failure to follow these principles may result in immediate removal from the range.

Required Protective Equipment
  • Eye and ear protection are mandatory for everyone on the range, including observers

  • Closed-toe footwear is required

  • Appropriate clothing must be worn at all times

  • It is suggested to wear coats and gloves during colder months

Range Conduct & Use Policies

To maintain a controlled and professional environment:

  • Follow all instructions from Range Safety Officers (RSOs) and staff immediately

  • Firearms must remain pointed downrange at all times

  • No firearm handling while anyone is down range

  • Firearms must be cased, bagged, or holstered when entering or exiting the range

Firing Practices​
  • No drawing from a holster unless authorized or during instructor-led training

  • No cross-lane shooting

  • Shooters must remain within their assigned lane

Ammunition Rules

The following ammunition types are strictly prohibited:

  • Steel-cased ammunition

  • Steel-cored ammunition

  • Armor-piercing rounds

  • Tracer rounds

  • 5.56 / .223 SS109 and M855 (green tip)

  • Spread or birdshot ammunition

⚠️ You must be 21 years of age or older to purchase pistol ammunition and 18 years of age or older to purchase long gun ammunition.

Firearm Restrictions
  • All firearms must be in safe working condition

  • Range staff may inspect firearms at any time

  • Suppressors and specialty firearms are subject to staff approval

Guests, Minors & Supervision
  • All shooters must present a valid government-issued ID

  • Minors must be directly supervised by a parent or legal guardian at all times

  • One adult may supervise only the number of minors they can safely control

The supervising adult assumes full responsibility for the minor’s conduct and safety.

Prohibited Behavior

The following will result in immediate removal from the facility:

  • Unsafe firearm handling

  • Disregard for range rules or staff instructions

  • Intoxication or impairment from alcohol, drugs, or other substances

  • Aggressive, reckless, or disruptive behavior

Instructor-Led & Advanced Training

Certain activities are only permitted during instructor-led training, including:

  • Drawing from a holster

  • Movement drills

  • Low-light shooting

  • Shoot house and scenario-based training

These activities require prior approval and direct supervision.

Enforcement & Liability

Close Quarters Tactical reserves the right to:

  • Deny range access to any individual

  • Remove any person for safety violations

  • Refuse service at staff discretion

By entering the range, all guests acknowledge that shooting sports involve inherent risk and agree to comply with all posted and verbal safety instructions.

Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy applies to all customers, visitors, and participants engaging with Close Quarters Tactical through our website, online services, in-person transactions, retail sales, and training programs.

We may collect personal information including, but not limited to: name, billing and shipping address, email address, phone number, date of birth, payment details, and information required for training registration or legal compliance. Information may be collected online, in person, or through third-party service providers.

  • Communicate regarding orders, classes, scheduling, or policy updates

  • Comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements

  • Improve services, operations, and customer experience

Data Sharing

We do not sell personal information. Information may be shared with trusted third parties solely for payment processing, scheduling, legal compliance, or operational support. These parties are required to maintain appropriate confidentiality standards.

Data Security

We take reasonable administrative and technical measures to protect personal information. However, no system can be guaranteed 100% secure, and we cannot warrant absolute security.

Your Responsibilities

Customers are responsible for providing accurate information and maintaining the confidentiality of their account or purchase details.

Policy Updates

This policy may be updated periodically. Continued use of our services constitutes acceptance of any changes.

Refund Policy

This Refund Policy applies to all purchases, registrations, and transactions conducted online or in person.

Retail Products

All retail sales are final unless otherwise required by law. Firearms, ammunition, regulated items, and safety equipment are non-refundable once transferred or used. Defective items may be addressed through the manufacturer’s warranty where applicable.

Training & Classes
  • Registration is not confirmed until full payment is received.

  • No-shows are not eligible for refunds or rescheduling.

  • Cancellations made 14 or more days prior to a scheduled class are eligible for a full refund.

  • Cancellations made between 14 and 3 days prior to a class are not eligible for refunds but may be rescheduled once, subject to availability.

  • Course date changes may be requested up to 48 hours prior to the class start time.

  • Each registration may be rescheduled one time only.

All cancellation or rescheduling requests must be submitted in writing.

Discretionary Authority

Close Quarters Tactical reserves the right to deny refunds, refuse service, or cancel registrations for safety, compliance, or operational reasons.

Terms & Conditions

Applicability

These Terms & Conditions govern all purchases, training, range use, and participation in any Close Quarters Tactical activities, whether conducted online or in person.

Assumption of Risk

Participants acknowledge that firearms training, defensive tactics, physical activity, and range use involve inherent risks, including serious injury or death. Participation is voluntary, and all risks are assumed by the participant.

Waiver & Release of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by Michigan law, participants release and hold harmless Close Quarters Tactical, its owners, employees, instructors, contractors, and affiliates from any claims arising out of participation, including claims resulting from ordinary negligence.

Medical & Fitness Acknowledgment

Participants certify they are physically and mentally capable of participation and agree to disclose relevant limitations prior to training.

Code of Conduct

Participants must follow all safety rules, instructor directions, and posted policies. Failure to comply may result in removal without refund.

Media Release

Photography and video may be captured for promotional or educational use. Participants may opt out by notifying staff. Removal of previously published third-party content cannot be guaranteed.

Refusal of Service

We reserve the right to refuse service or remove any individual for safety, compliance, or conduct-related reasons.

Governing Law

These policies are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan. Any disputes shall be resolved in Michigan courts.
