Service Description
The Patrol Rifle Operator course is an 8-hour program designed to provide officers with the fundamental knowledge and practical skills necessary to safely and effectively deploy a patrol rifle in the field. This course builds a strong foundation in rifle safety, handling, and marksmanship while emphasizing the operational role of the patrol rifle in law enforcement environments. Students will learn the definition, capabilities, and limitations of the patrol rifle, along with the safety principles required for responsible deployment. Instruction begins with the basics of firearm safety and establishing a Battlefield Zero (BZO) to ensure accurate and consistent performance. The course focuses on proper stance, stability, and sling utilization, allowing officers to control the rifle effectively while moving or operating in dynamic environments. Students will develop essential marksmanship skills including accuracy, trigger control, and natural point of aim. Training also covers weapon manipulation techniques, including tactical and emergency reloads using both the strong and support hands. Officers will learn how to identify and correct common rifle malfunctions, as well as perform one-handed manipulations when necessary. Additional instruction includes proper ready positions such as high ready and low ready, as well as transitional shooting from strong side to support side. Students will apply these skills during practical drills and live-fire exercises. The course concludes with engagements out to 100 meters, reinforcing marksmanship fundamentals and rifle handling techniques that officers can apply in real-world patrol situations.
